Feeling crappy lately? Sometimes these teeny microbes living on you and in you can influence not only your physical health but emotional too (and possibly disease development later in life).

Why should you always take extra care of your gut after taking antibiotics? It’s as easy as yogurt, some fermented foods, and laying off the sugar.

If you want extra points, you can also drink lots of kefir, a fermented milk drink that originally came from an area in Eastern Europe, but your grandma probably also made it herself and called it Bulgaros de Leche, or Yogur de Pajaritos. She also likely made her own yogurt, which is super simple to make. All you need is some non-flavored yogurt, some non homogenized milk and 5 hours.

Eating a variety of veggies will also help your microbiome, so time to make your own veggie-heavy sopitas. Or, for those weeks when you don’t have the time, get 20% off your first order of hearty plant-based soups and juices) at Splendid Spoon.

Erica had an espooky señora story for us this week that seriously gave us chills:

I was about 16 years old and on a trip to Mexico. A rancho in San Luis Potosi. We had gone to the presa where there is open field and a body of water the size of a medium pond. No one lives around it. It's in the middle of nowhere. We went to cook out and play. Well as the evening came and it started to get darker I heard a light wail from afar. In a small boys voice....it said, "ayuuuda!" It sounded far and desperate.

I looked over at my mom and aunts. I could see through the expression in their faces that they had heard it too. Again..."ayuuuuudaaa!"

My mom and aunt gathered all the kids to leave. I asked, what was that? They said, "oh nothing."

I know I heard something. Well in the days after. We found out that earlier in the summer a little boy had drowned in that pond. When my mom told me the hairs in my arm raised. Other people from the rancho had heard it too on different days.

This story has stuck with me and has made me a believer in ghosts and other worldly things.
