Tecito Time - Things to know

Maybe we should stop having that large in-flight glass of wine to soothe our plane anxiety.

Have you heard that tampons may be toxic for your health and contain lead and arsenic? It’s actually a lot more complicated but good to monitor this news for what they keep finding. I’ll be wearing pads for now, thank you porque uno nunca sabe.

These are science-backed tips for how to keep your skin healthy - but they’re also tips for feeling good overall, and aging better.

Guess what - Ice rollers do work but they won’t “sculpt” your face - they’ll help you reduce puffiness and redness, and will put you in a better mood. So ice away.

We have a new partner - Cheech and Chong gummies! I seriously love these right before bed, alongside my skincare routine. Get them here for a discount. I’ve added them to my self-care routine, which now also involves an ice roller for my face, my vitamins, and melatonin. It feels like everything is working and I feel more refreshed, but who knows.

There is a small risk in those cold plunges.

How much alcohol to drink is very personal, but it’s worth exploring the health risks.

On TIkTok: Gen X is fighting someone, no one knows who; also, I can’t believe Vanessa’s quinceanera. Where are her parents?

Recetas & Gardens

My garden is so so. The 100 degree heat killed off most of my zucchinis. My melons are staying put. The carrots never grew past a certain size (tiny), but they are delicious. Artichokes are going strong and the strawberries that I re-planted on my vertical garden is surprisingly hardy. Getting ready for our fall garden by adding new soil to garden beds, cleaning up our nasty herb garden bed, and adding drip system. How’s yours doing?

Here is the feta cheese recipe I’ve been making. I pick up goat milk Monday, I boil half to drink safely, and I use half to make goat cheese like feta. I’m completely in love with the process, so if you need a very soothing, slow, non productive hobby that’s also delicious, I recommend this.

I had been promising to share my favorite mocktail recipes, but there are so many I’ll be doing one each week(ish). Here is a light, delicious rosey mocktail that will keep you cool this summer, thanks to Herbal Academy, which by the way, has a new Clinical Skills Herbal Course. Sign up by today and you get the textbooks for free.

Ingredients

2-3 teaspoons candied ginger (Zingiber officinale) (or use equal amount of fresh ginger root juice)
2-3 teaspoons rose (Rosa spp.) flower syrup
1/2-3/4 cups fresh grapefruit juice (from 1 whole grapefruit)
1 cup tonic water
6-8 ice cubes
Grapefruit peel for garnish

Directions

  • Thinly slice the candied ginger and divide between two serving glasses.

  • Pour a teaspoon of rose syrup into each glass. (Note: Since rose syrups will vary in taste, aroma, and sweetness around the world, it is suggested that you try yours prior to making the mocktail by mixing a couple of drops of rose with 50 mL of tonic water. After you familiarize yourself with the intensity and floral flavor profile of your unique rose syrup, you can add it to the mocktail with confidence and adjust the amount if needed).

  • Squeeze the juice from the grapefruit and divide between the glasses.

  • The final step, when all the guests are ready and waiting, is to add the ice cubes and pour the tonic water.

  • Garnish with some sliced grapefruit peel and a few rose petals. (Note: As with the syrup itself, only use rose petals from organically sourced roses,).

Book News

We finished our first draft of  Radical Señora Era: Ancestral Latin American Secrets for a Happier, Healthier Life, submitted the manuscript and are now headed into layers of edits! Those last few weeks were tough, and I was easily spending 6 hours a day writing. But we’re super happy with how it turned out, and can’t wait for you to read it.

Are you one of our beta readers? Please reply to this email because I lost your emails! I’ll be sending the first draft in the next few weeks over to you for your review.

Chau and have a good weekend!
